Storage and shipping:

The switch must receive the complete frame before sending it to the port. Read the destination MAC address, it checks the CRC (cyclic redundancy counter used in the frames sent to verify errors), applies the corresponding filter and relays. If the CRC is incorrect rule out the plot. The shipping delay or latency is usually higher because the switch must store the full story, check it and then send it to the corresponding segment.

Cutting Method:

The switch checks the destination MAC address received as the head of the plot, and immediately begins to send the frame. The disadvantage of this mode is that the switch might broadcast a network of collision or a frame with an incorrect CRC value, but very low latency.

Free Excerpts:

Modified cutting mode, the switch reads the first 64 bytes before retransmitting the frame. Collisions usually occur in the first 64 bytes of a frame. The switch only sends the frames that are free of collisions.

LEARNING LINKS:

A switch creates virtual circuits between segments, it must identify the destination MAC addresses, searching their MAC address table to port and run it must send the shipment. When a start switch does not have data on the host connected to its ports therefore fills all ports waiting to capture the corresponding MAC.

As frames traverse the switch, it begins to store the memory in the CAM (content addressable memory) associated with an output port, indicating in each entry a time stamp so that after a certain time to be removed while preserving the space in memory. If a switch detects that the plot belongs to the same segment where it comes from avoiding traffic does not receive, if instead the destination belongs to another segment just send the fabric to the appropriate port output. If the frame was a broadcast switch flooding all ports with that plot.

The following table shows the MAC copy of a switch:
