Many network administrators would have perhaps never been aware of the fact that their router may be subject to an attack. In fact, the router operating systems are as vulnerable as the network operating systems.

Most small and medium size but does not have engineers with proven experience on routers or search this competency through outsourcing. And usually on providing sporadic interventions, based on the need to respond to accidents than non-methodical and frequent monitoring. It follows that directors and managers of the network does not know enough about routers and often do not even have time to think about their safety.

For this reason here are ten tips that could be useful if you want to make sure your router is in safe.

  1. Update the router’s OS
  2. Change the default password
  3. Disable the configuration via HTTP and SNMP
  4. Block ICMP ping requests
  5. Disable the use of telnet from the Internet
  6. Disable IP Directed Broadcast
  7. Disable source routing and IP redirects
  8. Packet filtering
  9. Check the security logs
  10. Unnecessary services
