Many companies reseller or distributor of Cisco products push their employees to certify (or people looking for certified). This is because the partner program, Cisco requires companies that they employ staff certified, become Premier, Silver or Gold partner, thus having access to additional services and facilities by Cisco itself (free publicity, various demo kits, etc…)

To obtain certification the easiest way is certainly to take courses, usually organized by Cisco Training Partners. The courses are taught by certified instructors Cisco, Cisco Certified Systems Instructor (CCSI) and usually have a high added value given by the laboratories (test played on practical classroom training environments containing real Cisco devices).

Cisco certifications have a fixed term, because this networker today must keep up to date and technology evolves so quickly. Certifications CCNA , CCDA , CCNP , CCDP and specializations have a duration of three years. Certification CCIE two. After this period you will need to recertify, which does not mean to repeat all the tests but in principle a recertification examination for each type of certification achieved. It is entirely focused on security in today’s networks, and this is reflected in the ways of Cisco certification. Cisco offers a security track and CCIE Cisco Certified Security Professional (CPSC) Intermediate certification, but there is no real equivalent to the CCNA on the security side.

One security certifications most popular partner is the specialist certification Cisco VPN. This track consists of two examinations of a securing Cisco Network Devices (SND 642-551) and a review Cisco Secure Virtual Private Networks (CSVPN, 642-511) review. For the Cisco VPN Specialist exam, you must hold a valid CCNA certification. Read the rest of this entry »

Cisco Systems was founded in 1984 by a married couple named Len and Sandy Lerner Bosacki. They were computer engineers working at Stanford University near San Francisco, California. The name of Cisco, which was originally spelled with a small c, was taken to San Francisco.

This is exactly the right product at the right time because it allowed previously incompatible computers to communicate with each other. The Cisco has contributed to the creation and growth of the Internet. The modification of the standard Internet Protocol (IP) reduces drastically the need for a multi-protocol router, but this time the company was well established and able to diversify into other networking products. IVT and multilayer switching is very commonplace in today’s network. SVI can be used to allow inter-VLAN communication on a switch multilayer, eliminating the need for a separate router to get involved.
